Geneva · nearly twenty years of teaching

I teach yoga that repairs, and that lasts — for bodies that have lived.

Morning classes in Les Grottes, private sessions across Geneva, and retreats by the ocean. I have two artificial hips and I swim three and a half kilometres. There is not much about a difficult body I have not met — in myself, or in the room.

Both hips replaced

I have two artificial hips. Last month I swam three and a half kilometres.

Both replaced inside twelve months — the right in June 2022, the left in June 2023. Both operations were successful. I went back to teaching, back to the water, and back to a full practice, not a careful diminished version of one.

I mention it because of what people assume the moment a body starts giving trouble: that this is the beginning of a long narrowing. It was not, for me.

I know what it is to rebuild from the inside — slowly, in the right order, with a great deal of unglamorous repetition. That is most of what I teach now, and it is why I am not frightened of whatever your body is currently doing.

Yoga for osteoporosis

A diagnosis of osteopenia or osteoporosis is not an instruction to stop moving.

If you have been told you have osteopenia or osteoporosis, you have probably also been told to be careful — and then left to work out for yourself what careful means. Bone loss speeds up after menopause, which is when most women first hear the word.

It does not mean stopping. Bone responds to being loaded. Balance is what keeps you off the floor in the first place, and it is falls, not stillness, that break things.
It does mean some familiar shapes come out of your practice — deep forward folds, rounded spines, twists cranked from the ends. A general class will not necessarily know that. I will.

Loading the bones

Hold a posture twelve seconds and the bone-building cells go to work. Bone builds itself where it carries weight, and gives back what it doesn't.

Balance, from the feet up

Fractures happen in falls, not in stillness. We start at the feet and build upward, until you have a base you trust on an icy pavement.

Length through the spine

Osteoporosis goes for the spine first, and the rounding shows long before a scan mentions it. So we work on length. It changes how you walk into a room.

Knowing what to leave out

Some ordinary yoga shapes are a bad idea for you now. A general class won't know which. That is what I was trained for.

If a doctor or physiotherapist is already guiding you on this, bring me what they have told you and we will work with it.

Yoga for Swimmers

I swim too.
That is rather the point.

I am not a yoga teacher who has read about swimming. I am in the water every week, over distance, and I know exactly which shoulder gives out first and why.

Shoulders

Mobility for a smoother, more efficient stroke.

Breath

Staying calm and efficient in open water.

Core

Stability, and a straighter line through the water.

Recovery

Faster turnaround after training and long swims.

What you can practise

Five ways in, one teacher

Group classes at Shanti Club, private sessions anywhere in Geneva, and workshops through the year.

If you are not sure which one you want, write to me and I will tell you honestly.

« Ce ne sont pas juste des suites de mouvements : c’est une décomposition incroyable de chaque exercice, de chaque muscle. »

"These aren’t just sequences of movements: it’s an incredible breakdown of every exercise, every muscle."

Myriam

Practices with elegant precision

New

Kundalini

Breath, repetition and sound rather than shapes. Asks very little of your knees and a great deal of your patience.

Dynamic

Ashtanga & Vinyasa

Strength, heat and a sequence you can grow into over years. Structure for people who like knowing what comes next.

Gentle

Hatha

Traditional yoga style. Slower, softer, and led by how the body actually feels that morning rather than how it is supposed to feel.

Specialist

Functional movement

Fascia, feet, and how force actually travels through a body. Feet, fitness, finesse — the part of my teaching that looks least like yoga and changes the most.

Dance like

Strala

Strala is fun and dynamic, with plenty of transitions. It is yoga in constant movement and flow, grounding us while lifting us up.

Private & corporate

One to one

In your home, your office, or by the lake. Built around one body and what it is currently doing.

What people say on the way out

I asked a few of them what the class had actually done, and filmed the answers rather than writing them down. In English and in French, as the classes are.

About

Lucinda Miranda Santos Wyss

Yoga teacher • Movement educator

Nearly twenty years of showing up on the mat, and of helping other people move with more strength, freedom and awareness. I teach in English and French, in Geneva.

Last October I began a three-hundred-hour Kundalini teacher training and found out that knowing something and being taken apart by it are not the same thing at all. I finished in July. Twenty years of practice turned out to be the ground floor; the training was the staircase.
